Cold Brew Earl Grey

Bergamot-scented Earl Grey cold-brewed overnight — the citrus oils bloom slowly in cold water, producing a silky, aromatic tea that is far more nuanced than the hot-brewed version. Serve with a curl of orange peel.

Cold Brew Earl Grey

Instructions

  1. 1

Combine the Earl Grey tea and cold water in a large jar or pitcher. Stir gently, cover, and refrigerate for 10–12 hours.

  2. 2

Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a clean pitcher. Discard the spent leaves.

  3. 3

Stir in honey if using. Taste — cold brew Earl Grey has a natural sweetness and the bergamot is beautifully pronounced.

  4. 4

Serve over ice. Garnish with a curl of orange peel, expressing the oils over the glass before dropping it in.

Pro tip

Use a quality loose leaf Earl Grey with real bergamot oil, not artificial flavouring — the difference in the cold brew is dramatic. Lady Grey (with added citrus peel) is a lovely variation. For an Earl Grey latte, pour the cold brew over ice and top with a splash of oat milk — the bergamot and oat milk are a wonderful combination.
