Raspberry Sweet Tea

Classic Southern sweet tea swirled with a vibrant homemade raspberry syrup — jewel-red, berry-bright, and just tart enough to balance the sweetness. A summer pitcher staple that disappears fast.

Instructions

  1. 1

Steep the tea bags in boiling water for 5 minutes. Remove bags without squeezing. Stir in the sugar until dissolved. Let cool completely.

  2. 2

Make the raspberry syrup: combine the raspberries, sugar, and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the raspberries break down, about 6 minutes.

  3. 3

Remove from heat and strain through a fine mesh sieve, pressing the solids firmly to extract all the syrup. Stir in the lemon juice. Let cool.

  4. 4

Combine the cooled sweet tea, raspberry syrup, and cold water in a large pitcher. Stir well. Taste and adjust sweetness.

  5. 5

Refrigerate until cold. Serve over ice with a few fresh raspberries.

Pro tip

Frozen raspberries work beautifully here and are available year-round — no need to wait for fresh. The syrup keeps refrigerated for up to 2 weeks and doubles as a great addition to lemonade, sparkling water, or cocktails. For a deeper berry flavour, add a handful of blackberries to the syrup.
