Arnold Palmer

The legendary half-and-half that never goes out of style. Equal parts freshly brewed black iced tea and tart lemonade, named after the American golf icon who made it his signature drink. The balance of bitter tannins from the tea against bright citrus is genuinely perfect — refreshing without being too sweet, complex without being fussy. A Canadian summer staple.

Instructions

  1. 1

Steep tea bags in 2 cups of boiling water for 4–5 minutes. Remove bags without squeezing, then let cool to room temperature. Refrigerate until cold.

  2. 2

Make the lemonade: whisk together lemon juice, simple syrup, and 1 cup cold water. Taste and adjust sweetness.

  3. 3

Fill two tall glasses with ice. Pour equal amounts of cold tea and lemonade simultaneously into each glass — pouring both at once keeps the layers from mixing too quickly.

  4. 4

Garnish with a lemon slice and serve immediately.

Pro tip

For a proper layered look, pour the lemonade first over ice, then slowly pour the tea over the back of a spoon. The tea will float briefly before blending. Use freshly squeezed lemon juice — bottled juice makes a noticeably flatter drink. For a spiked version, add 1 oz of vodka or bourbon per glass.
